Watt'nMEER day expeditions on the ALDEBARAN

Lessons on the sea about the sea! With the school research project "Watt'n Meer", pupils experienced the North Sea habitat up close. On board the research vessel ALDEBARAN, they learned from scientists and discovered the fascinating world of animals and plants in the North Sea.

Awareness of the sensitive Wadden Sea habitat and environmental and climate protection is raised during day expeditions. The project is supported by the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea Foundation and the German Marine Foundation.

The young researchers from Amandus-Abendroth-Gymnasium and Neues Gymnasium used specially developed "researcher diaries" and experienced an exciting program with twelve modules ranging from biodiversity to the littering of the ocean. The excursions, which lasted several hours, led to the Jade Bay or Medem Rinne, where the pupils also learned how to use professional weather stations and measuring instruments.
