Ocean Heroes

Officially recognized as a UN Ocean Decade Activity

Many faces, one goal: preserving and saving the ocean!

Our ocean is more threatened than ever and urgently needs people to fight for it. At the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon 2022, we met many Ocean Heroes and talked to them about their work.

The Ocean Heroes project demonstrates how effective communication can help raise awareness and support for ocean projects by publicizing their work on various media platforms. The campaign began with a series of short interviews with Ocean Heroes attending the 2022 UN Ocean Conference, including Asha de Vos from Oceanswell, Paul Holthus from the World Ocean Council and Mathilda d'Silva from the Ocean Purpose Project.

The ongoing campaign will highlight heroes from around the world, including many who will be attending the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in Nice in June 2025.

Are you an Ocean Hero? Would you like to take part in our media campaign for ocean heroes?

The German Ocean Foundation is calling on all ocean heroes to take part in our media campaign - we want to highlight the great work being done around the world for our ocean. If you are involved in a positive project to protect, restore or clean up the ocean or raise awareness for the ocean - either with the support of an organization or on your own - then we want to hear from you!

All you need to do is record a one to two minute film, preferably in portrait format, ideally in 4k 30 HD, or at least in HD quality and with a neutral background, and send it to us at office@meeresstiftung.de so we can embed it on our social media channels to raise awareness of your project and goals. The ten best entries will be featured in our next Ocean Heroes film, which will be shown on our website and the UNESCO-IOC page with activities related to the Ocean Decade.
