School expeditions

The future of Germany's coastal countries depends much more on the sea than is currently perceived. A multitude of sustainable value chains lie dormant in our planet's largest ecosystem.

For this reason, school expeditions on board the research vessel ALDEBARAN in German coastal towns are intended to provide a lively insight into the habitat on our own doorstep. Research methods such as underwater drones, special nets for microplastics and bottom grabs as well as high-resolution microscopes, binoculars and endoscopes will be used to provide a fascinating insight into the interaction of coastal ecosystems. The focus is on the vital biological diversity on our own doorstep and its significance for us humans.

How the consequences of climate change affect an inland body of water such as Lake Constance is visualized by means of research expeditions on board the research vessel ALDEBARAN and brought closer to young people in numerous experiments.

Young bloggers act as multipliers for their peers by capturing and interpreting the results themselves and passing them on to their classmates in their own language, both digitally and in the form of workshops. The focus is on the transition between water and land, which can be made particularly visible and conveyed through the media possibilities of the research vessel ALDEBARAN. The floating laboratory also forms a bridge between inland waters and the ocean.
