Frank Schweikert at the EU Mission Board in Brussels

Since April 2024, our Executive Board member Frank Schweikert has been a member of the Mission Board of the European Commission for the Restoration of our Ocean and Waters (EU Mission Board for our Ocean and Waters). As the only German representative, he now has a front-row seat to help shape sustainable ocean policy for the kind of ocean we need and want.

On September 24, Frank had the opportunity to speak at the 2nd public meeting of the parliamentary group on the European perspective of marine policy. In his role as a member of the EU Mission Board, he emphasized the important role of a strong ocean awareness in society for effective marine protection. His reference to the IOC/UNESCO Venice Declaration on Ocean Literacy sums it up: "What people love, they protect."

The event brought together numerous representatives from politics, industry and major associations such as NABU, DUH and Greenpeace. Together, we are committed to protecting our ocean and shaping a sustainable future for our waters.
