German foundations call for action: KURS HALTEN for the preservation of livelihoods and for a living democracy

Around the time of the Bundestag elections, the German Ocean Foundation, together with 25 committed German foundations from various social spectrums, is calling on political actors and the democratic parties in a joint declaration to stand up resolutely for the preservation of fundamental rights and a vibrant democracy in a cross-party consensus.

The signatories refer to five fundamental pillars to which the Federal Republic of Germany has committed itself and which should not be up for election. Germany has:

● signed the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015 and committed to climate neutrality by 2045 following the Federal Constitutional Court ruling in 2021,

● signed the Kunming-Montreal Convention on Biodiversity 2022 and committed to comprehensive nature conservation,

● has driven forward the establishment of the European Union and implements its laws, such as the European Green Deal, with the aim of creating peace and security and protecting fundamental rights and livelihoods,

● The inviolable human dignity and inalienable human rights are enshrined in Germany's Grundgesetz (Basic Law) - this also applies to people who have to leave their country due to emergency situations and seek protection in Germany,

● With the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, we have promised to work in partnership to contribute to the peaceful, socially and ecologically sustainable development of the global community and to provide the necessary resources for poorer countries.

The cornerstones of our democracy, nature conservation and climate protection are not up for election - they are the basis of our existence. That's why we, committed foundations in Germany, are calling for this: Stay the course and take responsibility!
